Professional Code of Rights and Responsibilities
It is the intent of the PBH, Inc. to present a set of policies and guidelines to be used by Counsellors, Psychotherapists, Mental Health Therapists, Hypnotherapists, Healers, and Professionals from a variety of disciplines. This professional code is also intended to utilize and expand on some of the best aspects of the Code of Ethical Principles for Marriage and Family Therapists (As presented in Vesper and Brock, 1991.); as well as, the Canadian Code of Ethics for Psychologists (Published by the Canadian Psychological Association, 1991.).
The Professional Code of Rights and Responsibilities can very easily be referred to in the case of an ethical dilemma or conflict of interest in professional practice. This code is intended to clarify the issues, which are important in a Therapist's clinical practice. This document is in effect a detailed Code of Ethics for Therapists' in a variety of disciplines that operate as private practitioners, within a group practice, or within the boundaries of a regulated profession.
The Professional Code of Rights and Responsibilities does not list what to do in every instance; however, the general ethical intent is set forth in this document. It is up to each therapist to refer to the code in cases of a professional dilemma. For the Professional Code of Rights and Responsibilities to be effective it is up to the individual Therapist to choose the solution that best fits the overall ethical intent of this document in regards to their specific ethical issues.
This series of guidelines is the ground upon which the standards of the Professional Board of Hypnotherapy, Inc., is based. Member Therapists' will/and must follow this code to the best of their abilities as required by the membership agreement. Failure to follow the established Code of Ethics and The Professional Code of Rights and Responsibilities may lead to the member therapist being removed from the membership listing.
